Fund for Overseas Citizens
Sir,
Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs, Vayalar Ravi's suggestion that a welfare fund for overseas Indian workers be established is worthy of serious consideration. Many of the citizens have "taken refuge" abroad for eking their livelihoods leaving behind all their near and dear ones ; it is partly because, even after 50 years of achieving freedom, enough free lance job opportunities as also expansion of manufacturing industries in the private sector have not been created in the country. No wonder there is so much of clamour for Government jobs which have to be rationed out, to all the cross sections, because of various pressures. The Welfare Fund being mooted may enable those unfortunate persons who are forced to return to the country, midway in their careers abroad, to get some relief and time to get re-stabilised on their return.Persons who go out as refugees may also return as refugees, otherwise!
